The administrative headquarters of Davangere district, Davangere is popularly known as the Textile Capital of South India or the Manchester of the South. Davangere, a city with self-styled culture, is renowned as a hub of education. Davangere was visited by Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd March 1934, who laid the foundation stone for a high school here.
